H2H8 over at NE

Recommended Posts

For those of you who are not aware, Head-to-Head 8 (H2H8) is currently going on over at www.nedesigns.com. This competition pits 6 teams of 11 RCT players against each other, with small parks going head to head every few weeks. This is the first iteration of the competition since OpenRCT2 was created, and the game is already changing the competition.

Check out all the action here: https://www.nedesigns.com/forum/238/head-2-head-8/

For the first match of the first round, check out this link: https://www.nedesigns.com/topic/35713/h2h8-round-1-match-3-ultrarealists-vs-heavens-gallery/

These first two parks make use of many of the hacks/cheats/features of OpenRCT2, and are really interesting to look at. Check them out if you have a moment, you won't be disappointed!

It's nice to hear OpenRCT2 allows for more tricks :D One of the parks looks very buggy at the edges though (I know there's a glitchless version). I wonder why they decided to hide surface elements with corrupt elements, rather than using black scenery tiles and walls for them?

That was supposed to be a particular effect, using the current bugginess of the OpenGL rendering. If you turn it on with that park, it's supposed to look very psychedelic. It did work for me, but not for others. The park could've used a readme, would've made it easier to understand what the builders were going for.

On another note, Match 2 is up!

If I understand the frame buffer thing, it should look like those cheesy color effects they used in 60s and 70s that trailed behind people when they walked or something. I thought it was cool. The whole park is basically supposed to be a drug trip.

I'd be curious to get your thoughts on Match 2!

All Coasters Go To Heaven is one of my favorite concepts for a park ever, and so well-suited to H2H. Mostly just adore seeing a really solid Drachen Fire recreation (and Son of Kumba's inclusion is perfect). Dig Site was my favorite overall for round 1 though - just so much happening.

That Drachen Fire rec is fire. So so good. I've tried to make it before and failed at it.

Round 2 is underway, with the first two matches posted:

The first is a fantastic battle between city parks in different regions.

The second is a great matchup as well (although I can't really summarize yet because I haven't looked deeply into either park)

Thanks for picking up my slack Ling! If you ever wanted to build a ski resort in RCT, be sure to check out Team Spacecrab's park! I know...I'm a little biased...

We've also got on the menu: a candy disaster at Billy Wonka's factory, a train extravaganza from Grand Central, and a park heavily inspired by Efteling!

The final matchup of the round should be released today or tomorrow!

How do you guys think that OpenRCT2 has changed this competition? Do you think the consistent high quality of all the parks is due to the ease of building and hacking in Open compared to using vanilla RCT2 and trainers?

Also interesting that we've not seen any LL yet....

The lack of LL is concerning to me too and I think is also related to the rise of OpenRCT2. I'm curious if any of the teams are using OpenRCT2 to build concurrently.

I already mentioned this over at NE but this may be the most consistently incredible quality we have ever gotten out of an H2H season, at least since the early days, even before my time. Nothing obviously unfinished or even poor quality; just a ton of absolutely solid parks. A lot of the rounds have been incredibly close too. It makes me really happy.

I can't believe Heaven's Gallery vs. The Replacements R4M1 is perfectly tied after 44 votes.

I can't speak for other teams, but Dig Site 4, Studio Ghibli, and Mount Haystack were all built making extensive use of multiplayer. Winkelheim used it much less so, since it was almost a solo park. The last few days of building on Haystack were super fun, with Camcorder, Coupon, and myself all building at once.

And yeah, what a match so far. That match has big implications too, according to my math, in that whichever team can get to 3 wins first is guaranteed a playoff spot.

Wow, been almost a month since I updated this thread. Round 5 has come and gone, with Heaven's Gallery, Strangelove, The Replacements, and Team Spacecrab advancing to the playoffs. Semi-finals deadline is this coming Sunday, so we'll see four new parks early next week!

Unfortunately we had a bit of drama with that last match, but you can read about it in the thread and some of the park files.
